Risk Perceptions of Vegetated Coastlines.

My research will address risk perceptions of a type of green infrastructure, vegetated coastlines, as a buffer for sea level rise inundation in coastal communities, like Norfolk, Virginia [3]. Through a four-phased approach (figure 1), I will identify risk perceptions relevant to vegetated coastlines, develop interventions to correct risk misconceptions (among the public and among designers), test those interventions in the field, and analyze the results by adjusting the computational models used in design. By targeting the most influential gaps between risk perceptions and calculated risk, small effects from behavioral intervention can have a larger impact.
